Overview

La Música del Futur (The Music of the Future) is a collaborative generative AI and digital editorial design project created for the Interacció Digital subject in the Digital Design and Creative Technologies degree at the Universitat de Lleida. Developed by a 4-person team, the project explores the future of music and sound technology in the year 2040. Using advanced text and image AI generation tools, the project explores lateral thinking and speculative storytelling to create a multi-page article that was integrated into a collective, multi-topic student magazine.

The Challenge

The academic brief tasked each team with conceptualizing, generating, and laying out a dedicated section for a digital and printable magazine targeted at a young audience (ages 18–35):
     - Generative Workflow Integration: Experimenting with cutting-edge generative AI engines for both image and text generation without sacrificing editorial cohesion.

     - Speculative Narrative & Worldbuilding: Framing a believable cultural trend report set in the year 2040, centered around non-existent futuristic musical instruments and sonic experiences.

     - Dual Print & Digital Delivery: Exporting a finished article tailored to exact editorial grid guidelines, balanced for both print production and digital screen reading.

     - Collective Magazine Integration: Designing an independent feature article that would seamlessly assemble into a full class-wide magazine alongside diverse aesthetic styles and languages (Catalan and Spanish).

Our Approach

     - Prompt Engineering & Image Generation: Leveraged Lexica and DALL·E 2 to generate complex 3D renders of futuristic instruments—such as holographic harps, spatial synthesizers, and wacky wind-based devices. We iterated positive prompts focused on dark blue backgrounds, extravagant textures, and sci-fi aesthetic logic.

     - AI Text Generation & Content Curation: Utilized ChatGPT to generate news-style reporting and narrative prose around the title "La música del futur: ampliant els límits del que és possible". The team refined and edited the AI output to fit the speculative tone of a 2040 cultural report.

     - Editorial Design & Post-Production: Curated visual moodboards from Behance references for layout inspiration. Images were retouched and pre-processed before being structured in Adobe InDesign, organizing typography, columns, and visual hierarchy following the master publication grid.

     - Multi-Format Export & Cover Contest: Finalized dual PDF exports (print-ready CMYK and digital RGB versions) for class presentation, contributing to the selection process for the final magazine cover.
