Overview

Transformation is an emotional, narrative-driven short film produced as a collaborative group project for the "Edició Digital" course of the Bachelor's Degree in Digital Design and Creative Technologies at the Universitat de Lleida. The story explores the profound emotional and psychological journey of a young individual who leaves their small, restrictive hometown behind to embark on a new academic and professional chapter in the city. Representing a deep-seated quest for personal growth and liberation, the narrative follows the protagonist as they break free from a closed environment, reconstruct their identity, embrace new perspectives, and learn to navigate their new reality with a healthier, more open mindset.

The Challenge

The primary challenge of this project lay in executing a highly professional film production workflow within an academic framework, managing every logical phase from raw ideation to final digital master. Emotionally, the challenge was to capture the abstract internal conflict of personal growth, identity shift, and the anxiety of leaving one's comfort zone, translating these complex feelings into subtle visual cues. Logistically and technically, it required the seamless coordination of diverse production assets, tight filming schedules, and meticulous planning to ensure that the visual tone, camera language, and pacing translated perfectly during the final post-production phase.

Our Approach

To bring this coming-of-age story to life, the project was developed through a comprehensive, industry-standard production pipeline:
     - Rigorous Pre-Production: A solid narrative foundation was established by developing the core concept, defining deep physical and emotional character profiles, and writing a comprehensive literary script.

     - Technical Planning & Logistics: To streamline the shoot, a scene-by-scene outline (escaleta) was structured and then translated into a detailed technical script detailing camera angles, shots, and audio requirements. A complete script breakdown (desglose) was performed to organize props, wardrobe, locations, and cast, formulating a strict shooting schedule (plan de rodaje) and daily call sheets (orden del día) to optimize time on set.

     - Artistic Post-Production & Color Grading: During the editing phase, the focus was placed heavily on visual rhythm and digital editing. Purposeful color grading was applied to contrast the suffocating atmosphere of the small hometown with the vibrant, open, and evolving palette of the city, visually reinforcing the protagonist's internal transformation.
